Welcome to St. Joseph's Playgroup, Hertford. We provide a fun and friendly environment for preschool children aged between 2 years to 4 years 10 months. At St. Joseph's Playgroup we provide stimulating resources to allow your child to become an independent learner, preparing them for that big step into 'real' school.
A bit about us
We are proud to be part of the St. Joseph's RC School community here in Hertford. Our Playgroup is situated on the grounds of the school, staffed by qualified childcare professionals and managed by a committee of parent volunteers.

Our staff are warm and nurturing and truly understand the needs of Early Years, with most staff members parents themselves. We provide consistent care and support through a key worker system. The staff work hard to maintain our safe and enabling environment.
At St. Joseph's Playgroup we have an outdoor area which is open to the children everyday, creating a large indoor-outdoor environment for them to explore. We also have a quieter sensory space that provides an opportunity for the children to play, de-stress, self-regulate, interact with others and find comfort to improve sensory processing skills.
Our Playgroup is Ofsted approved and rated as Good. We welcome all children and accept both funded and fee-paying families.

Sessions for preschoolers
Children can join us from 2 years old as we help them get school ready ahead of their transition into reception. We offer three sessions which your child can attend depending on their age.
Morning 9am-12pm
For our little 2-3 year olds. We welcome them to join the morning sessions the term after their second birthday.
Lunch Club 12-1pm
We offer a lunch club daily from 12 - 1pm for those children who are 3 and either attend mornings at Playgroup or St. Joseph's RC School Nursery. Children are required to bring a packed lunch.
Afternoons 1-3pm
Children who already attend morning sessions at Playgroup can stay in the afternoons after they have turned 3. Children aged 3 or 4 who attend St. Joseph's RC School Nursery are able to attend Playgroup in the afternoon and we are able to share the 30 hours free childcare offering.
Early Years Award
​
We have been awarded the Early Years Communication Friendly 2-4s status.
This means that our staff have completed and passed training to support our children with speech, language and communication.
